Protect Democracy, Farmer Livelihoods and the Rights of Farmers to Save Seed. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) insists that proposed changes to Canada's variety registration process are minor and that the proposals just add options to the menu. Our analysis is that of these changes will fundamentally change agriculture in Canada. It is clear that the proposals for seed “modernization” chart a plan for restricting farmers’ ability to choose and save seeds, and for solidifying control in the hands of seed companies and biotechnology multinationals.
