    On May 10th and 11th, 2010, Roger Petry, co-coordinator of RCE Saskatchewan, presented at learning events and side events organized by the United Nations University at CSD18 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on the topics of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

  • RCE SK Interpretive Panel Unveiling at Craik

    Spring Into Action Event, June 8-9, 2009

    The "Spring Into Action" Event was hosted by the University of Saskatchewan on June 8-9, 2009, focusing on the intersection of First Nations perspectives, Education for Sustainable Development, and the K-12 curriculum in Saskatchewan. This event was followed by the unveiling of the RCE Saskatchewan Interpretive Panel in Craik, Saskatchewan, on June 10. The University of Regina hosted an event with Dr. Chuck Hopkins as a keynote speaker addressing on the Bonn Declaration on June 11, followed by a lunch and afternoon session focusing on ESD research and activities of the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology held at SIAST.

  • Biosphere in Montreal

    4th International RCE Conference, Montreal, May 13-15, 2009

    RCE Montreal hosted this very successful conference in May, 2009. The first day of the conference was held at the Palais des Congres. At this venue RCE continental meetings were held in conjunction with the 5th World Environmental Education Congress. The remainder of the conference was hosted at the Biosphere of Environment Canada. Over 150 participants attended the 4th International RCE Conference with nine attending from RCE Saskatchewan.

    Balik Pulau Sustainable Village Tour, Malaysia

    The following photos are from the Jalan Baru Sustainable Village on the island of Penang, Malaysia. The photos were taken by Roger Petry in conjunction with a tour on August 9, 2007, arranged by the International RCE Conference in Penang. Photos include a complex array of integrated livelihood activities: examples of a homestay building (B&B); locally produced drinks, fruit, and other refreshments; bakery; paper manufacturing from bananas; cultivation and processing of spices and medicinal plants; and local production of Batik (a process of creating ornate designs in various fabrics).

    Fostering A Culture of Sustainability Workshops Oct. 4-5, 2007

    Three workshops were held in Regina, Craik, and Saskatoon on October 4 and 5, 2007, led by Douglas Worts, an author and educator on the role of culture in sustainable development with over 25 years of experience through the Art Gallery of Ontario, as well as Glenn Sutter, Head of the Life Sciences Unit at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Regina. The photos are from the Regina event at the Mackenzie Art Gallery and were taken by Roger Petry.

    International RCE Conference (August 7-8 2007)

    RCE Saskatchewan participated in this international gathering of 35 RCEs and 15 prospective RCEs organized by the UN University and hosted at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, Malaysia. Photos include pictures of the USM, the RCE conference meeting and display area, and the RCE Banquet at the Equatorial Hotel in Penang. Photos labelled "LM" were taken by Lee Lik Meng (contact: likmeng@gmail.com). All other photos were taken by Roger Petry who attended the event from Luther College at the University of Regina. Dr. Ruben Rajakumar from the University of Saskatchewan was also present on behalf of RCE Saskatchewan.

    World Innovation Forum, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Aug. 10&11, 2007

    The World Innovation Forum (WIF) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 10 and 11, 2007. RCEs were invited to attend this event that followed the International RCE Conference in Penang. The theme of the event was "Innovating for Sustainability". Three members of RCE Saskatchewan presented as panel members at the WIF, Dr. Ruben Rajakumar and Dr. Satya Panigrahi of the University of Saskatchewan and Roger Petry from Luther College at the University of Regina. In addition to the WIF, a further innovation fair was held (PECIPTA '07) where universities throughout Malaysia were able to display technologies they had developed for sustainable development.
