Canadian explorer and environmental filmmaker Mark Terry will present
his award-winning documentary The Antarctica Challenge: A Global Warning
on April 7, 2010, at the Education Auditorium, Room 106, at the
University of Regina. The film, which is appropriate for a family
audience, begins at 7:00 p.m.

The film reports on diminishing populations of penguins and marine
life, grass growing in the world’s largest desert, startling new data
on the ozone hole and the imminent rise in the world’s sea level due
to the accelerated melting of Antarctica’s land ice. Terry is touring
with the film to continue his mission of educating people about these
new environmental discoveries. He will be available to answer questions
following the film.

“The land ice is melting at a much faster rate than any of us had
previously realized,” said Terry. “A larger volume of fresh water is
now being added to the world’s seas posing a threat to coastal
communities.”

The film was the only one officially invited by the United Nations to
screen to delegates and world leaders attending COP15, the Climate
Change Conference in Copenhagen last December. With more than 25
screenings during the two-week conference, the film made an impact on
the delegates with its message of Antarctica’s rapidly-changing
environment.

This event is sponsored by the Office of Energy and Environment and the
Canadian Plains Research Centre at the University of Regina, and
LaBodega.
