Dr. Scott will focus on change management and leadership in the area of sustainability in higher education. For example,

-How can we prepare students to be leaders in sustainability once they assume roles outside of university?

-What should be the key areas of focus in the work of senior and local university leaders of Education for Sustainability?

-How do successful leaders in the area of education and sustainability judge that they are performing effectively?

-What resources can be used to develop and enhance effective academic leadership in the area of sustainability in higher education?

Dr. Geoff Scott (BA, Dip Ed, M Ed, Ed D, FACE) is currently Executive Director of Sustainability and Professor of Higher Education at the University of Western Sydney (UWS) in Australia. He was Pro-Vice Chancellor (Quality) at the UWS and Provost of its Penrith Campus from 2004-2011. He is currently leading a study of turnaround leadership for sustainability in universities across Australia and internationally and is also co-leader of another study which is benchmarking academic standards and assessment. Dr. Scott has undertaken a range of national and international research studies on university student learning, education for sustainability, quality assurance, change management and leadership and has carried out commissioned reviews and capacity building projects for universities within and beyond Australia on these areas. He currently leads the UWS Sustainability initiative and is a member of the Advisory Councils of the Sustainable Futures Academy in Salzburg and the Australian Campuses for Sustainability. His latest book, “Turnaround Leadership for Higher Education” (with Canada’s Michael Fullan), won the Bellwether Book Award in 2009 and reveals how campus leaders can proactively meet the challenges and expectations facing their institutions.
