Tell Youth about this Contest! All  youth, ages 19 years or younger are invited to submit Artwork (writing, photography, drawing/painting) between April 22-May28 to be entered into The Robert Bateman Get to Know Contest! (registration form downloadable at www.gettoknow.ca)

In December 2009 Nature Saskatchewan agreed to partner with The Robert Bateman Get to Know Program to join efforts in solidarity to inspire connections between children and nature.

Nature Saskatchewan will bring the Get to Know Contest to Saskatchewan this year by promoting it to schools and environment clubs, having a Contest Launch event at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum's Earth Day Celebrations (April 25), and hosting a congratulations event for the contest winners at Nature Saskatchewan's Spring Meet in June. The mission of the program is to foster a greater awareness and understanding of biodiversity through hands-on learning that builds knowledge and strengthens connections to nature.

Over the last ten years, the Get to Know Program has grown to become one of Canada's most popular and beneficial environmental education programs for young people. World renowned artist Robert Bateman has shown the incredible power of the creative arts to engage youth in learning and allow them to express their renewed bond with the plants and animals in their local environments.

The annual Get to Know Contest encourages youth to get outdoors, ‘get to know’ their wild neighbours and to then use their experiences as the inspiration for creative works, including sketching, painting, writing, photography—any medium that will allow youth to express their knowledge creatively! The theme of the contest is “Connect. Create. Celebrate.” and one of the foremost objectives of the Get to Know Program is to applaud Canada’s young people for their passionate interest in the environment.
