The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of a new National Research Grant Competition on the Earlier Detection of Breast Cancer. A $5 million initiative, this new competition underscores CBCF’s commitment to earlier detection as a priority to reduce the impact of breast cancer.

As a national competition, which is being offered in addition to existing Regional CBCF competitions, this competition will be open to applicants from across the country. Applicants may apply to both Regional and this national competition. Registration and application forms will be posted on the Earlier Detection Competition Call for Proposals page at the time of the full call announcement in mid-September.

2) Cystic Fibrosis Canada - October 2011 Competition

Cystic Fibrosis Canada, formerly known as the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, invites applications to its October 2011 Grants & Awards Competition.

Grants and awards are available in the following categories:

· research grants (based on the submitted August 2nd notice-of-intent);

· scholarships;

· senior scientist research training awards;

· clinical fellowships;

· fellowships; and

· graduate studentships (program includes joint MD/MSc or MD/PhD).

Please note that scholarships, offered only in odd-numbered years, will be accepted in the October 2011 Competition.  

Application forms (Word or PDF) are posted on our Web site (http://www.cysticfibrosis.ca/en/research/ApplicationForms.php). Applicants are advised to consult the relevant sections in Cystic Fibrosis Canada's newly-revised 2011/2012 Grants & Awards Guide (http://www.cysticfibrosis.ca/assets/files/pdf/Grants_and_Awards_GuideE.pdf) when completing their forms.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada award recipients (fellows and students) whose funding ends in 2012 should be submitting applications to the October 2011 Grants & Awards Competition.

The deadline for receipt of an application is Monday, October 3, 2011. Completed applications and all supporting materials will be accepted only if hand-delivered to Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s office by 5:00 p.m. EDT on October 3rd OR courier-marked on/before midnight on the deadline day of October 3rd. Applications sent by courier must have guaranteed next-business day delivery.

The 2011/2012 Foundation Fighting Blindness Operating Grant competition is now open. To be eligible to make a full proposal to this competition, research teams are first asked to submit a Letter of Intent describing their intended program of research and its suitability for FFB funding. Forms and instructions for completing this Letter of Intent process are now available on our website at http://www.ffb.ca/research/grants_awards/og_app.html.

Please submit your Letter of Intent before this year’s deadline – November 15, 2011.

Please note, no graduate or post-doctoral fellowship award competition is currently planned for the 2011-2012 year.

Each year, the Foundation Fighting Blindness awards nearly 1.5 million Canadian dollars in new research funding. This funding is enabling the work of exemplary scientists, who are making dramatic progress in the fight against blindness.
